Research details

Areas of research interest

Selank is studied for anxiety and stress, cognitive function, and immune modulation. Russian clinical studies tested it in generalized anxiety disorder, and it is registered as a medicine in Russia. Selank is not approved by FDA or any Western regulator, and independent Western replication is limited.

Overview

Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a synthetic heptapeptide developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is an analogue of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immune-modulating peptide, extended with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro sequence.

Research summary

Anxiety. Russian clinical studies evaluated Selank in patients with generalized anxiety disorder and neurasthenia [1].

Neurotrophic effects. In rats, Selank given intranasally regulated expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the hippocampus, a brain region involved in memory [2].

Evidence base. Nearly all Selank research comes from Russian groups, much of it published in Russian-language journals.
